Frozen Meat Trade Report.
Messrs Nelson Brothers report on the frozen meat trade under date London September 7 as follows : — The cattle trade at the Metropolitan markets since our last monthly report has been unsatisfactory, generally more beasts offered than were required, making trade dull and dragging, the absence of many families from town much lessening the demand for the priinest fat beasts, and to clear, Bales were often forced, to the heavy loss of graziers, who had bought their stores when prices ruled high Shed cows and rough inferior cattle have met a fairly steady demand, Belgian buyers still operating freely. At Doptford, supplies of American and Canadian cattle have been somewhat curtailed, and rather better prices generally obtained. The recent improved conditions of British markets induced increased shipments, and afloats are reported to be heavy For sheep the trade haß been steady for small neat wether?, the heavier coarser descriptions and ewes not being in so much demand ; sheep in the country are scarce and dear, and an opening is afforded for Foreigners, American, Canadian and Argentine, which are still exposed in the markets, though instances of" scab " have been detected,
