Cricket Dews.

The cricket season was opened in Feilding yesterday afternoon, when there was a good muster of " Knights of the Willow" on the ground. Crioket weather prevailed, and the ground was in capital order, and one and all thoroughly enjoyed tho afternoon's recreation. A match, Professionals v. Tradesmen, was to have been played, but as the former oould not muster a team a scratoh matoh was indulged in, sides being ohosen by Messrs Carty and Troseder. After a two-innings contest Mr Carty's team won by 21 runs, their total score being 68, while the other sido totalled 47. One of New . Zealand's " cracks," in the person of Mr W. J. Salmon, of Wellington, took part in the game, and this gentleman put together the biggest score of the day. As several enthusiasts in the game have lately taken up their residence in Feildina this season should be a very syiccassftw one, and after some good solid work h*& been indulged in the local CJub should be in a position to place a very strong team in the field. It is to be hoped the Club will give a better account of themselves than they did last season, and that the members will seize every opportuuity to practise.
