MR WATSON ACCEPTS THE PRESIDENCY. [PEE PBESB ASSOCIATION.! Wellington, October 6 Mr Watson, Chief Inspector of the Colonial Bank of New Zealand, has reconsidered his decision as to the Presidency of the Bank of New Zealand, and has been again offered and accepted the position. Mr Watson will commence his duties at once. It is probable that the appointment of Government auditor for the Bank of New Zealand will be thrown open for competition, but this question has not yet been finally settled by Cabinet. This Day. Before appointing Mr Watson, the Government made a final effort to get Mr Coates by communicating with the London directors of tho National Bank, through the Agent-General, and asking them to release him from his engagement, but without success. Mr Watson's salary will be over i*2ooo a-year. Mr Watson is remarkably popular with the officers of the Colonial Bank, and his loaving the institution will be viewed by them with regret.
