Report of the Clerk of Works.

At tho Borough Counoil meeting on Thursday, the Clerk of Works reported as follows:— During the past month the work of diverting the Makino stream below Manchester street bridge has been carried out, and a cutting made through section 98, purchased by the Council some time ago for that purpose. So far only a portion of the scheme recommended has been carried out, and before any groins are pat in above Warwick street bridge it may be advisable to wait and see what effect a fresh has on tho channel. So far tho action of the stream is satisfactory, and the work, has had the effect of removing the scour from the corner of Queen street. WiK lows have been planted in places where the banks are being scoured away. Tho roads generally are now in good order, but a number of small works require* ! attention. Attention was drawn to the damage being done to footbridges by young people oongregating on them and swinging on the guard wireg.
