Hawkes' Bay A. and P. Show.
m (Per Press Association. N api kb, This Day. Though the morning opened showery and threatening, notwithstanding there was a very large attendance at the A. and P. Show yesterday, and the afternoon proved sunny though cold. The most noticeable feature was the complete absence of merinos in sheep. The classes in Lincolns also were less numerous, and there were only a few Downs and Shropshires. On the other hand Romney Marsh and English Border Lcicesters were far more numerous than ever before, showing the set of public opinion among the sheep farmers of Hawke's Bay. T. Tanner took chamEions in both Lincolns and English icicesters, the latter with a ewe which beat all England at the Royal Agricultural Show last year, and a ram which was a twin brother to the prize ram there. R. Harding took nearly all the chief prizes and ram championship in Roinneys, beating all the imported stock in every class but one. F. Hutchison exhibited a champion ewe. In Border Leicesters Messrs Ormond and Nelson divided chief honors, the former getting the ram championship with animal bred by Mr F. Holmes (Canterbury), and the latter the ewe award with a ewe bred by Little Bros. (Otago). In thoroughbred horses the championship was awarded to Jet D'Eau, who beat Natator, Dreadnought, St. Andrew and Mousquetaire. In cattle, A. McHardy and H. Lawry and the Mount Herbert Estate carried off the prizes. The championship went to a bull imported by Mr McHardy from Sir Wm. Clarke's herd in Victoria. That for cows went to the Mount Herbert Estate with a locally bred animal, which beat another importation from Sir Wm. Clarke's hrcd.
