Christchurch, Ootobors A deputation from the promoters o' the Sumner Canal schomo waited on the Lytteltnn Harbour Board to-day and asked the Board to conduct the Decoasarv soundings and survey, the cost of which was estimated at £1600. The Board resolved that it could not see its way to spend any money on the proposed canal, an amendment that the Board snpplement any sum up to £500 subscribed by the local public in order to haye the property surveyed made being lost.
