Feilding School Committee.
Tbe monthly meeting of the above was held in the schoolhouse last eyening. Present— Messrs W. Carthew (ohairman), W. (i. Haybittle, R. J. Thompson, J. Taylor, H. Worsfold, A. Eade. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The head master's report was read showing an improvement in attendance during the month. For the first two months of the quarter the average attendance was 240 and for the third month 270, while last quarter the attendance was 271. The attendaace was 250 for the whole of this quar ter. An apology for non attendance at the meeting was received from Mr Shearer Mr Flavall sent in a report and also stated that he oould not act as truant inspector without remuneration. ' From J. Pawson asking permission to put barbed wire along fence between his property and school ground. Permission granted. From Acting-Secretary Wanganui Education Board stating that the ap. plication for desks, etc., would be attended to. The chairman pointed out that through the non-attendance of one child the committee lost 18s in capitation, for had the attendance been 251 in place of 250 they would have received that amount in addition to what they are now receiving (£7J as the quarter's capitation. Resolved, That Mr Flavall's resignation be accepted with regret. Proposed by Mr Haybittle, seconded by Mr Thompson, That the Education Board be to for pecuniary assistance as it is impossible to carry out the requirements of the committee with the present capitation grant. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Carthew, seconded by Mr Worsfold, That Constable Tuohy ba informed that Mr Flavall has resigned, and that he be requested to use his best endeavours to see that all children attend the school, Also, that Mr Flavall be accorded a vote of thanks for past services.— Carried. Resolved, That the ranger be requested to impound all horses or cattle found in the school ground after school hours. Messrs Shearer and Gould were appointed a visiting committee for the ensuing month. Resolved, That the attention of the Education Board be drawn to the unsatisfactory state of the boys' uri&al, and that they be requested to erect a new one. Accounts amounting to £9 16s 6d, were passed for payment and the committee adjourned.
