_ «. — The ratepayers in the new ward of the Pohangina County, comprising the Wanganui Harbor Board Small Farm Association No. 2, the Pohangina township and other sections in the ward, have called a meeting to be held on Saturday next at Pohangina, to select a candidate to represent the ratepayers at the forthcoming election of councillors. This is tbe most prudent course for them to adopt because in a newly opened country, or country which is in course of being opened as in the caie of the Pohangina County, the construction of roads and their maintenance is practically the all important requirement of the settlers. In order to meet that demand, to bare the work done thoroughly, and at the same time with a due regard to economy, the very best men among them should be selected as members. The simplest way to accomplish that end is that adopted by the conveners of the meeting where the merits of those fit for the position will be freely and openly discussed.
