The Late Maori King.

(Per Press Association.) ' Auckland. Sept. 24. A special train with five hundred Auckland citizens left for Tanpiri this morning to attend the tangi in connection with Tawhiao's death. The European party was received with welcome, and fusilades were fired by two hundred armed men who opened out and the Europeans advanced to the tent where the bier was placed, and speeches of condolence were delivered on behalf of the Europeans by Jas. Mackay and others. Major Tewheoro responded Hoanui Taipu sang a song of welcome. The new King Mahuta greeted all. The King received a number of leading Europeans. Refreshments were provided for a thousand European visitors. Among those present were Sir Henry Ogle, Bart., of H.M.S. Rapid, and f2_n_Ml Si*. Kfarir nnrl TaHv Walker.
