Correspondence.

THE PROHIBITION LEAGUE. TO THE EDITOR OJb' THE STAR. Sir, — "S's" letters are beside the Prohibition question, but as they effect the Prohibition League as a body, they , cannot be allowed to pass unnoticed. i Kindly allow me space to make a few i remarks. First, "S " is like many 1 critics, who think that if institutions or societies do not carry out just the kind of work the said critics would do, did they hold control, the said insti- , tuitions are good for nothing. Second, How did "S " know so much about the W.C.T.U going to start a fund to 1 take up Prohibition cases, when on the occasion mentioned you informed ' us they held no meeting ? Third, a fund such as •• S " proposes to the , W.C.T.U. would be a farce. Does he 1 propose to give someone a tip of half a ■ sovereign to take up cases? The League, sir, has been considering this 1 question as well as " S," and, when the way is open, action will be taken in , some cases by officers of the League, r who will do the work regardless of > consequences, from love of unfortunate i humanity, and not for pay. This " S " should know, as he seems to know something of Prohibition matters. I j may inform him also, that at a meeting , of the W.C.T.U., held yesterday, the . idea of a fund (vide above) was proposed and discarded as unnecessary, useless, and impracticable. As this 5 correspondence was commenced anony- > mously I sign myself j Uriel. , Feilding, September 24th, 1894.
