The Committee of tho Volunteer Conference, which is dealing with the question of armament will, it is expected re* commend the adoption of the Martini* Henry rifle as the weapon for volunteers. The Committee, which has been consider* ing the question of uniform, will recommend the general use of the following ; — Blue Norfolk jacket with white metal buttons and scarlet facings, trousern of same material as jacket, blue helmet, with glengarry cap for undress. A man named Daniel Munro, known to the police, was arrested to night on a charge of being concerned with two others in the robbery of the cook of tbe Metropolitan Hotel on the Te Aro reclaimed land. Screams were beard and on persons rushing in the direction from which they came, the latter complained of be>ng robbed and three man were seen makiog off. Pursuit was giren and Munro was arrested Christchurch, Sept. 24. Mr T. M. Hardy Johnston, the wellknown Indian ciyal engineer, who has resided in Christchurch for a number of years, died to-day, aged 78 years, Several burglaries hare been reported to the police, but in no case has anything of value been taken. Hokitika Sept, 22. Jfa9 Lafferty, a resident of Kanien, 65 yonrs of &np, was instantly killed this morning by the fall of a boulder in the tunnel of hie claim.
