Oroua River Protection Loan.

i ; A meeting of ratepayers within the Manawatu County Council Special

Rating District was held at Mr A. Der oner's residence, Awahuri road, on Saturday afternoon last, to decide as to whether the proposal to raise a loan of £'250 for the purpose of protecting the banks of the Oroua river — where it is encroaching on property towards 1 Awahuri — should be carried out or not. A majority of the ratepayers interested were present, viz., Messrs C. ' Bulll, Boness, A. Dermer, R. Whisker, and E. Jennings. Mr E. G. Cox, ■ clerk of the Manawatu County Coun- ■ cil, conducted the meeting. Those present being unanimously of opinion ■ that the loan should be raised at once, a resolution was carried to that effect, on the proposition of Mr R. Whisker, seconded by Mr Dermer. The necessary poll will betaken at Mr Dermer's 1 residence on Monday, the 24th inst.
