♦ — TWO DAYS' ENGAGEMENT. RESULT INDECISIVE. [PEE PBEBB ASSOCIATION. I Shanghai, September 12. Recruiting for the Chinese fleet is going on freely. The men show an excellent spirit, especially tbe juniors. Europeans are greatly surprised at the ease and rapidity with which the ships are handled. By the treaty with Corea, Japan promises to provide supplies of food for the Corean troops t Li Hung Chang appears unable to push on either naval or military preparations with tbe necessary speed. September 13. China bas decided on the winter campaign, and bas organised a second corps of 10,000 Hainanese. Both sides keep up a continuous fire across tbe Impin River. A two days' engagement took place at Kai Cheng, but the result was indecisive. The floods prevent the Chinese crossing Impin in the face of tbe Japanese entrenched on tbe other side.
