The Felding Star. OROUA AND KIWITEA COUNTY GAZETTE. FRIDAY, SEPT. 14, 1894. BOROUGH ELECTIONS.
THe election to fill three vacancies in the Borough Council was held yesterday. There were four candidates, viz., Messrs Allan, Bailey, E. Goodbehere, and J. O. Thompson. Mr Goodbehere headed the poll with 189, Mr Allan was next with 142, and Mr Bailey third with 135 votes. Mr Thompson was unsuccessful. We con gratulate Mr Allan on his election and are satisfied that he will prove a valuable addition to the Council. Messrs Goodbehere and Bailey have also our congratulations. They have in the past proved themselves to be very capable members of the Council, keenly alive to the interests of the town. The defeat of Mr J. C. Thompson was somewhat of a surprise to his friends, but he will no doubt be more fortunate on a future occasion. Although there was no excitement yet the numbers of electors who registered their votes indicated that considerable interest was taken in the election. We bear that several names of ratepayers were omitted from the roll by some blunder, and when the persons came to vote they were annoyed at discovering their disfranchisement. It is not unlikely more will be heard of the matter in the Council. ■ .
