A Plea for Remission of Sentence.
(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Wellington, September 12. A deputation waited this afternoon upon the Premier to urge the remission of sentence of Kerei Kerihau. Mr Hone Heke said the offence had been cotnmitei under the influence of Tawhiao, and was in no danger of repetition. The Premier said he could not recommend the remis* sion. Kerei had been twice previously convicted and released on the promise of good behaviour. The Premier said he had beard from Tawhaio himself that Kerei bad acted on his ova responsibility*
Palmerston .Hospital Board. '*- ♦ ■ : . .- The usual monthly meeting of the above board was held yesterday. Pre-sent-—Messrs; <& M. Snelson (chairman) Parley Ravecihill, Ransome, Taylor, Kendall, and Lethbridge. The following correspondence was received : — From Halcoinbe Town Board, Feilding Borough Council, and Kiwitea County Council, forwarding balance of hospital levy. ' From Manchester Road Board, forwarding first instalment of levy. It was resolved to cancel this agreement to guarantee the overdraft for £800 at the Colonial Bank. With dation of the medical sta^ ; thatiickets be issued to .visitors;"' ||r£Park explained that it was intended: to issue two tickets :of admission^ to each patient, who would give them out to those he or she wished t^ pay a visit. He would suggest V,thit a letter be written to Dr McGregor to, enquire what steps Bhonld be taken.— ■ Suggestion adopted. Mr Fitzherbert waited on the Board with an oral opinion as to the legality of the will of the late Captain Bother; land. In order to establish their claim he said the Board would have toprovn that the deceased was at the time of making his will of sound mind. The most important question to be considered was whether or not the Board would be acting wisely' in pressing their claim. If the. Board -hall intended to push their claim they should have done so before letters l of administration were issued. '' - Mr Park was of opinion that the claim should be abandoned, ,and Mr Ransome strongly supported him. On the motion of Mr Ravenhill, seconded by Mr Park, 'it was decided to take no further action in respect to the disputed will at present Accounts were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
