Two Women Charged With Murder.
An inquest on the body of a girl named Alberton Jarrett was held recently in Melbourne. The> widows Anna Sealey and Emily Fitzjames, now awaiting trial on a charge of performing an illegal operation, were present. Medical evidence was to the effect that death wag due to pleuropneumonia, caused by blood poisoning, and there were indications that instruments bad been used. A compositor named Joseph Comfort stated that he was not quite keeping company with the deceased, but he was in her company. He had known her for two years and a half, and was in tbo habit of visiting the girl when she wasi st home about once a week- He was known to the family bj the name of Wallace. WitnesH was a married man with a family. He was shown a number of affectionate letters, written to deceased and signed " Wallace," He did nof remember bavin? written these, but being rebuked by the coroner he admitted that one was in his hand-wnting. He did not want to * have anything to do with the girl all along, but she followed htm. He denied hnvmg promised to marry ber. After further evidence the jury found that the deceased died from pleuro pneumonia, re* suiting from blood poisoning, brought about br an illegal operation performed by Anna Sealey and Emily Pitzjames. and they returned a verdict of wilful murder against the two women. Accused were committed for trial.
