Wesleyan Church Concert.
The concert given in the Assembly Rooms last evening in aid of the new Wesleyan Church building fund was not largely attended, and this was to be regretted, as the concert itself was a good one while the object for whicii it was given was deserving of substantial support. It was certainly not very encouraging for those who took part in the programme, especially for | the members of the Sandon and Campbelltown Wesleyan choirs, who had travelled such distances to give their services. However, though small, the audience was appreciative and many of the items rendered were encored. The two opening orchestral pieces, " Airs " and " Aurelia," were played by Mr Haybittle's String Band, strengthened by Mr S. Moore (piano) and Mr F. G. Wool lams (flute), in a brilliant manner, while many anthems given by the combined Sandon and Campbelltown choirs were capitally rendered, and Mr Sanson, the conductor, must have taken considerable pains in drilling them so efficiently. The whole of the anthems went with a swing and brightness, " Exalt Him," " Father Almighty," ancl " God Reigneth," going perhaps better than the others. Miss Anderson, of Sandon, presided at the organ. Mrs F. VV. Jones, of Wanganui, sang *' The Lost Chord " and " The Bridge," her powerful contralto voice being heard to advantage. Mrs Joues was encored for both her efforts. " The Village Blacksmith," sung by Mr Meadows, and " The Better Land," by Mr Tresder (with violin obligate by Mr Meadows), were two enjoyable items, both being encored. Two recitations, " The Road to Heaven " by Mr G. E. Johnson, and " The Song of Home " by Mr W. Downey, were much applauded, and a song, " Waiting," was sweetly rendered by Miss Brim nett e. Mr Durrant's song " Guiding Light " was applauded. An enjoyable item, and one which was vociferously encored, was a flute solo, " Swiss Dunce," played by Mr F. G. Wool lams. Mr S. Moore efficiently played all the ac- j companiments and an enjoyable concert was concluded by the singing of the National Anthem.
