The Stock Market.

A successful sale of dairy stock was held yesterday, at Makino, by Messrs Gorton and Son on behalf of Mr W Reid, who ia giving up dairying. Out of 28 head offered 20 were sold. Tho bidding was spirited for all cows and heifers forward in calf, nearly all of thoso paabod in being cows in milk. Cows forward to calve fetched from £5 to £9, heifers, £4 to £5 2s, average £6 2s all round including heifers. Messrs Lowes and Irons stock salo report. Plain boef steers sold at £6 to £G 78 5d ; ditto cows, £5 15s to i.'6 2s : storo cattle, £4 10s 6d to £5 ; dairy cows, mostly oid, £4 to £5 ; dairy heifers, £4 to £5 ; 2-year old ditto, 65s to 755 ; 2^-year-old steers and heifers, mixed, £4 ; 18 to 20---months steers, 60s ; yearling ditto, 50s; calves, 30s to 3t)s ; ewes in lamb low in condition, 8s 3d ; hoggets, &s to 9s ; horses, as usual, were hard to sell. Draughts were quitted at £8 to £10 10s, £11 5s and £13 10s ; hacks from 40s to £7 10s ; young pigs sold freely at from 8s to 1 ls 3d. A. G Tame and Co., Wellington, report on the markets for the week ending September 6th. Sheep— Heavy wethers up to 17s 8d ; good wethers, 14s to 16s ; light, lis 6d to 12s 6d ; fat ewes, 12s 6d ; store wethers, lis to 12s for very fresh, 9s 6d to 10s 6d ordinary ; ewes in lamb, a good enquiry, sales effected at aud up to 8s Gd ; young do, 10s to lis 6d ; hoggets good enquiry, but few offered, we quote up to 10s ; medium to 7s. Cattle - We can place all offering at market values and quote prime beef at 20s to 21s por 1001 b ; store cattle are selling freely now that the grass is springing weaners, 27s 6d ; yearlings, 40s ; 2-year-old steers, £3 ; 2-year-olds, £4 to £4 15s; dairy cows, aged, £5 to £5 10s; young, £7 to £8 10s. We held our monthly stock sale at the Lower Hutt on Tuesday last, the entry was composed mainly of dairy cows and cattle. We sold a line of heifers at £4 10s ; cows. £5 to £5 12s 6d ; aged do. to £3 ss ; yearlings, 36s ; 5 sows at 25s ; store pigs 12s 6d.
