London, September 7 The Labour Congress urges Unionists to strongly support co-operative movements. Bankers consider the new stock conversion scheme more favorable to the depositors, but regard the colonial deduction as excessive. Messrs Nelson Bros, state that the stock of mutton now stored in London amounts to 500,000 carcases, and it is unlikely prices will improve before Christmas. The Financial Times characterises the New Zealand Budget as a daring experiment, and regrets the resumption of borrowing. The Scotch investors approve of the deposit conversion scheme. It is explained that owing to the amount of the expenses it would be impossible to abolish the colonial deduction. Admiral Inglefield is dead. The Pall Mall Gazette prefers the policy of the late Victorian Government to that of the present Government. Haddon, Chambers, and Stephenson's " Fatal Card " has been produced at the Adelphi with great success. Sofia, September 7. The people stoned M. Stambouloff when leaving the Court, and he had to be protected by the troops. Paris, September 3. Roumania is borrowing ±'5,000,000 at four per cent, through a French syndicate. Mr J. Chamberlain, speaking at Liverpool, said it was impossible now to bridge the gulf between the Liberals and the Unionists. Official circles regard Necker Island as always belonging to Hawaii, and consider that the protest from the colonies is ill-timed. Brussels, Sep. 7. The prisoners Joinaux arrested on a charge of murdering a number of relatives have been committed for trial.
