Proposed Creamery in Feilding.
• A meeting of dairy farmers and others interested in tbe formation of a creamery in Fwilding was held at Messrs A F. Halcombe and _on'« ' office yesterday afternoon. There were present — Messrs F Y. Lethbridge, R. H. Whifker, J. G. Cobbe, A. Dermer, G. Kirtou, - Legg, C ' Newall, J. iSaxon, W. A. Sandilands, G. E. Little Mr F Spencer, cbair- ' man of Directors of the Cheltenham Dairy Company ; W. Jones, Dire< t r, and R C. Templer, Secretary * f the samo Company were also present. • Mr F. V, Lethbridge, who convened the meeting, occupied tbe , chair, and explained that it was at the request of several persons that be : had called tbe meeting and invited ■ tbe chairman of tbe Cheltenham Dairy Company to attend. There were a number of people in the neigh borhood desirous of supplying a creamery with milk as it was evident. Mr Corpe had decided not to go on with his fa Uory at Makino. He bad spoken to Mr Jones with a view to ascertaining the cost of a creamery. He would now ask Mr Spencer to state on what terms a creamery could be built. 1 Mr spencer would have liked to have heard the opinions of others present as to what steps were to be taken. He did not know if Mr Corpe was giving up his factory at Makino aud if a creamery in addition were started it would be too much for the 1 place. If tbe factory were stopped it > would doubtless be advantageous to have a creamery here. When the factory was started at Cheltenham it was not iatended to extend the field of operations so far, but if the necessary means were provided they did not object to do so. They would probably have to increase tbeir plant at Cheltenham under these circum stances. The creameries already ' erected cost between £500 and £600, but they had been given the land at Birmingham, and it would cost £600 to erect a creamery here. The num of shares required to be taken up would be3soof £2 each, & .50 cows. It would mean tbat 25s per share would need to be paid to put tbe new shareholders on the same footing as the old ones. The creamery would be ready in a few weeks after the shares had been taken up. The half-yearly bal--1 ance had been closed that day (yes terday) and he was confident over 3d per gallon had been netted to sup pliers for their milk, for which they were giving no fixed price. All pro fit.-* oypr six per cent were divided amongst milk suppliers. The smallest number of sbareß which could be taken up by anyone not already a shareholders was five. Proposed by Mr Kir ton, and seconded by Mr Dermer, That it is the opinion of this meeting that, it is de sirublw to establish a creamery in Feildiug iv connection with the Cheltenham Dairy Factory — Carried. Proposed by ** r Sandilands, sec onded by Mi Kirton, That Messrs Dermer, Whisker, Newall, Holden, and Lethbridge, with power to add to a number, be a committee £0 canvass for tho necessary shares to justify the Cheltenham Dairy Company starting a creamery in Feilding. — Carried. Votes of thanks to Messrs Halcombe for tho use of the room and Mr Lethbridge for presiding closed the ineetiug. A li Bt was drawn up in the room aud 36 shares were taken up repre sentiug 102 cows Thore appeared to be some doubt as to whether the creamory would include Makino, but it was tho intention of tbe promoters of the meeting that the Creamery should bo erected iv the most central place for the convenience of suppliers and tlio l%et^brs would be guided by this in selecting a site. A site has been suggested at Makino, ; hu? this matter will not be gone into ' until tho required number of shares ' have I o-«n subscribed
