The House met at 2 ■30. Id reply to Mr Hogg Mr Seddon stated the matter of the revision of the tariff had received the attention of the Government and they hoped to deal with the whole question in a system, atic manner as early as possible. Replying to Mr £ M. Smith the Premier said he thought the Parliament Buildings should not be used for holding political , banquets, and the House Committee 'should be consulted' before such gatherings were held in Bellamy's. The rest of the afternoon was spent in discussing a motion by Mr Dutbio for a return in connection with persons employed in the Civil Service. The question of the banquet given to Mr Kolleston in Bellamy's on Saturday night was also introduced into the debate, exception being taken by several members, to the tone of the speeches delivered on the occasion. The diecusaiou was not finished when the House took the dinner adjournment. l .The House resumed at 7.30. Major Steward moved the 2nd reading of the Elective Executive Bill to provide for the election of the Executive Council. Mr Reeves was totally opposed to it. Sir R. Stout strongly spoke in support of the Bill, and pointed out , the advantage^ of the elective system over party Government. • ' , Mr Seddon twitted Sir Robert Stout with having spoken at Dunedin some years ago strongly in favor of party Government, and asked, why that Irtn. gentleman had changed his views. He regarded this matter as likely to prove injurious to the Liberal party. On a division the second reading wai negatived by 27 to 21 anc^the Bill killed. The House rose at la.m.
