(Per Press Association.) Auckland. August 20. The funeral of Mr Adtm Porter yesterday was largely attended nearly every public citizen being represented. The Premier sent a wreath and also the wharf labourers. A cab was engaged to carry the wreaths to the grave owing to the number sent. At a meeting of the Auckland Liberal Association to-night it was resolved that the Government be urged to open up works in the north in order to nlieve the present distress, and try, if possible, to settle the people on the lend forthwith. A meeting has been called to discuss the iron trade generally, and endeavour to get the Government to increase the duty upon manafaotured iron goods. Don spin, This Day. The Premier advises that the Govern* ment intend to raise the age of consent to whaii it was originally proposed. Chiibtchubch, August 20. John Young, aged 62, residing slons in a house in Peterborough street, was found dead in one of the rooms on Saturday. At the inquest death was shown to have resulted from conjeation of the longs. Mrs Peacock, wife of the Hon. J. Pea* cock, died last night at 12 o'clock.
