Peach trees are now blos.soming in Pahiatua. Mr F. Pirani, M.H.It., has got his Pohangina County Bill through all its stages. From time to time wo will make reference to various new works as they are added to the Public Library. Of " A Marriage Ceremouy " it is said — a variation on the theme matrimonial of a sprightly and original kind to be one of tbe most readable novels of this season. Mr Spencer, chairman of the Cheltenham Butter Factory, is to read a paper on " The Chemistry of Milk," in the Colyton Hall, to-morrow evening, at 7.30 p.m. As the contents of the paper are likely to convey a vast amount of useful and instructive information to dairy farmers, it is expected there will be a large number of them present. To-morrow Messrs Gorton and Son will hold a special horse sale in their Feilding yards. Some valuable draught and harness horses will be offered on account of Mr Thos. Hoult, of Christchurch, and also a number on account of Messrs Hockeu Bros., the well-known horse-dealers, of Colyton. The sale will commence at 1.80 p.m. Miss Bacon, of Piilmerston North, announces by advertisement to day that ehe will hold a grand plfiin <xnd funcy dresa b*)l in the \ssemblv Rooms on September sth, at which all the modern and fashionable dances will be introduced. Miss Bacon held a similar dunce in Palmerston a short time ago end it proved an unqualified fuiccesp, and tbe one to be given in Feilding will doubtless meet with a large measure of support.

At the annual meeting of the Wanganui Gun Club on Wednesday night it was decided to hold a pigeon match on 17th October (the day previous to the W.J.C. Spring Meeting), at which it is intended to give away .£SO in prize inouey. A special general meeting of the Mauawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association will be held at the Occidental Hotel, Palineraton, to-morrow at noon, to confirm the action of the Committee in reference to the purchase of land, and revision of rules. An entertain rueut is to be given in the Bunuythorpe Public Hall this evening for the benefit of Mr Henry Jepsou, a well-known and highly respected resident of that place, who has for sonic time past been a patient in the Wellington Hospital.
