MURDER BY A CHINAMAN. SEVENTH DAY ADVENTISTS IN TROUBLE. REVIVAL OF THE "STOCKS." (PER PS2SB ASSOCIATION .3 Sydney, August 11. A Chinese cook, engaged on a river steamer near Brewerrina, ran amuck, ami fatally shot a deck band named Bolt; through the back, and seriously wouuded another sailor. The rest of tho crew jumped overboard. The murderer was arrested. He stated the reason for the crime was that the other men disliked him. Recently a number of Seventh Dav Adrentists were fined in a small amount under an act of Charles 11., and in default of payment tho Act declares thai; they must be put in the stocks for two hours. The Adventists refused to pay the fine, and thus placed the authorities rather in a quandary relative to erecting stocks. Nothing can be done till the election of the Minister of Justice. A Judge of the Supreme Court sayn he sees no loophole of escape from enforcing the judgment. Both the Premier and the Minister' for Lands have been re-elected by laige majorities. News has been received of the death, in England, of Captain Hammill, formerly of H.M.S. Orlando.
