The Premier and the County Council Delegates.

(Per Press Association. Wellington, This Day A deputation from the County Councils Conference interviewed the Premier last evening. Tbc more important resolutions passed by the Conference having been laid before the Premier, the latter pointed out the demand of the Conference that charitable aid should bo distributed by the local body which raised the rate would mean the abolition of Charitable Aid Boards. Tho recommendation that a local body should be permitted to borrow money under tho Government Loans to Local Bodies Act to pay off its overdraft would involve a very large sum. It would tako about three of the total amount allowed by the Government uuder that Act. The local bodies on the West Coast would be quite pleased with this, for their overdrafts I amounted to about £30,000. He would refer the matter to the Colonial Treasurer. There would be no chanoe with the large amount of business now before tbe House to bring in legislation with referenco to local bodies. He apprehended that when local government legislation had been put on a satisfactory basis there would be no necessity either for a County Council Conference or Municipal Conference.
