Customs Duties and Protection.

(PEB PRESS ASSOCIATION). CHBisTcnrRCH, August 10. At a largely attended meeting of the Christchurch Bootmakers' Union to-day, the following motions were carried: — (I) Reaffirming tbe desirableness of a revision of the Customs tariff during the present session of Parliament. (2) Deploring the apathy of those members of tbo House who pledged themselves to bring about a revision of the tariff during the present session. (3) Protesting against the abuse of party government in retarding measures for the benefit of workers, as shown in the recent Ser-geant-at-Arms appointment. (4) Expressing the opinion that the large amount of boots and shoes annually imported into New Zealand shows the inefficiency of an ad valorem tariff to encourage local industries.
