Farming Notes.

(By " Agbicola.") THE PLANTING BEASOK. I notice that settlers are going in rery extensively this season for the planting of fruit and ornameutal trees. This is as it should be. The American Agriculturalist advises farm* 9rs that next to the building of sheds For the housing of stock is that of planting trees for shelter. Of course we do not get such severe weather here as they do in America, but the Farmer will find that it is necessary to provide shelter for stock even in New Zealand. It appears that the winter seasons are increasing in aererity. Whether it be atribu table to so much of the bush being cleared or not, it is evidently a fact that .the cold is increasing. HISE IN PRICE OF STOCK. ■ It is quite cheering: lately to attend the stock sales and see the happy countenances of the farmers. No doubt circumstances which have lately , transpired in financial matters have tended to cause' the rise. Business should brighten up a little now. As we are all more or less dependent on the farming industry we should all benefit. THE NOXIOUS WEEDS BILL. I presume most of the farmers have thought the matter over and come to their conclusions in their own minds. There will always be careless farmers as well as careful farmers and I think there are some good points in the Bill. Of course legislation can be carried too far as witness a case in point when some years ago the farmers were compelled by legislation to cut all the Scotch thistles before they were in bloom or in default a severe penalty would bo inflicted. It has been proved that the despised Scotch weed does the ground a considerable amount of good.
