Feilding Harmonic Society.
A meeting of those interested in the formation of the above Society was held in Miss Goodbebere's Schoolroom last evening, when, despite the inclemency of the weather, there was a fair attendance, about thirty ladies and gentlemen being present. On the motion of the Rev. Innes Jones, Mr Hill, the convener of the meeting, was voted to the chair. ' On taking the chair Mr Hill thanked those present for their attendance, and stated that he had a List of ladies and gentlemen who had promised to become members of Society, viz., 30 working members and 5 honorary members, whose names he read to the meeting. After two or three more names were added to the list, some discussion ensued as to the best name for the Society. On the motion of the Rev. Innes Jones, seconded by Dr Sorley, it was carried unanimously, That the name of the Society be the Feilding Harmonic So* ciety. The following officers were then elected : — President, Rev. Innes Jones ; Vice-Presidents, Messrs Bagnall, F. Y. Lethbridge and J. C. Hill ; Secretary and Treasurer, Mr Johnson; Working Committee, Messrs Moore, Tueseder, Meadows and Dr Sorley, and Mesdames Macarthur, Hill and Carr; Conductor, Mr Meadows ; Deputy Conductor, Rev* Innes Jones. Proposed by Rev. Innes Jones, seconded by Mr W. Giesen, That the sessions be from April Ist to 30th September. — Carried. Proposed by Dr Sorley, seconded by Mr Bosher, That the present session last till the 31st December. — Carried. The honorary members' subscriptions were fixed at XI Is, and the working members at 10s 6d annually. It was resolved, That the benefits dev rived by honorary members, the selec\ion of the music, appointment of pianist, procuring piano, and place and dates whero and when meetings would be held, be left in the hands of the committee. A hearty vote of thanks to the chairman, which was carried by applause, terminated the meeting. At the conclusion of the above meeting a committee meeting was held. A sub-committee was appointed to select a cantata, to bo put into practice as soon as possible. It was decided to procure the glees "Sweet and Low,' 1 "The Carnivalo," "Stars that are Shining above us," " Oh, who will o'er the Downs bo Free." The Secretary was instructed to make arrangements with respect to securing a hall for practices, the first to be held on Thursday next. The first concert will be given about the first week in November, and the second in December.^ —
