The Case of Louis Chemis.

An interview between thirty-five members of both Houses of the" Legislature and a committee of Italian residents, of Wellington, concerning the case of Louis Chemis took place in the Parliamentary Buildings to-night. Mr C. H. Mills, convenor of the meeting, expressed his conviction of the in* nocence of Chemis, after . having- concluded bis investigation as Chairman of Petitions Committed who considered the subject. He asked for the support" of members for the Bill under his charge, giving the Court of Criminal Appeal power to review the Chemis case. The Secretary of the Committee reviewed the evidence heard; at the trial, and said what they asked was not that the man should be set free, but that the evidence should be sifted again. Mr Mills assured the deputation that members would do what was right in the interests of truth and justice, and with that the interview ended.
