The ballot of members of the Amalgamated Society of Railway serjaat t of New Zealand is being taken for the purpose of ascertaining the feeling with regvrd to the acceptance of the conditions on which the Railway Commissioners will recognise the Society. Dumedik, July 30. The Engineers' Society has carried a resolution calling the attention of the Government, to the men on the goldfields working twelve hours' shifts for eight hours' pay, and asking that legislation be introduced stopping the practice.
