THE FEILDING SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAR. Sib, — I have, in this evening's Stab, read a letter, signed Lawrence £. Reade, upon the subject matter of a caning his son received from Mr Carter, of the State School. Mr Reade in his letter says that my son was unmercifully caned. Such, sir. with all due deference to Mr Reade, was not the case. My son was caned and gave me his version of the aflair. I, however, preferred to believe that whatever punishment had been meted out to my son was justly deserved, and I, therefore, refused to interfere. I consider that if we bad more teachers of Mr Carter's calibre in the School the Inspector's report would be much more satisfactory. I am, etc., W. A. Saxdilands. Feilding, July 26th, 1894.
