HOUSE OF REPRESENTAVES.
The House resumed at 7.30. Mr McKenzie moved the second reading oi the Lands for Settlement Act Amendment Bill, which lie said was the most important measure the House would have to deal with this session. He said a large number of people were looking forward to the passing of this Bill as the only hope of securing to themselves homes in future. It had met with disaster in the I Council in previous years, but he held it was now the duty of the Council to pass it. Captain Russell had always opposed the Bill as not being in the interests of the Colony, and he had seen no reason to change his views. They must have stability of tenure if they were to have general confidence, and it was within his own knowledge that about a dozen young men with capital had left tliis Colony within the last .two yerrs owing to unsecurity of tenure, and the fear of this Bill. The debate was adjourned till Monday.
