LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.

[PER FB.ESS ASSOCIATION 1 Wellington, July 18. The Council met at 2.30 p.m. The Hon. Sir Patrick Buckley, reE lying to Mr iShrimski said it would c better if th« latter moved for a select committee to inquire into the shipping of damp wool with a view to make such a punisba le offence. . The Auctioneer's Amendment Bill, Bank of New Zealand (iuaraatee Bill, and Bank Directors and Shares Trans for Bill were read a first time. The standing orders were suspended to enable the two latter to pass all stages at one Hitting. On the motion for the second reading of the Bauik Bills a long debate ensued. The Hon Dr Pollen objected to the Council being led by the nose in respect to these Bank Bills. The Hon. Mr Oliver thought it was too late in the day to protest now. The Hon Dr Grace would like to see a select Committee appointed to consider the past management of the Bank of New Zealand The Hon. Mr Ornoond blamed the Government for not investigating the affairs of the Bank since the main Bill was passed. He moved, as a protest but with the hope that it would be agreed to, for the appointment of a select committee to enquire into the Bank affairs and the conduct of the Government in connection therewith. The amendment was lost by 23 to 10 and both Bank Bills passed their final stages without amendment The Council then adjourned.
