The Ottawa Conference.

(Per Press Association.) Ottawa, Jul? 5. Mr Lee Smith (New Zealand) gave notice of motion that the Pacific cable route should include touching at New Zealand. The Conference decided not to fix the route at the present stage. The conference has endorsed the necessity of the British cable across the Pacific, and the Imperial Government is to be asked to survey the route at the joint expense of Great Britain and Canada- The delegates from the Australian colonies stated they were not in a position to commit their respective Governments until the cost is known. It is believed the survey will cost £2,500. The conference rei acted the immediate constiuction of the Pacific c<<ble on the grounds the data at the present were insufficient.
