Tbe bridge across the Kiwitea stream opposite Mr D. P. Buchanan's is being repaired. In tbe House Mr Pirani has given notice of his intention to introduce tho Pohangina County Bill. The Kiwitea County Council have decided to raise a loan to cover their share of the cost of repairs to the Onepuhi bridge. The bankruptcy estate of Gaskate and Son. Liverpool, commission Jirokcrs, who filed recently, shows the liabilities to bo £44,925 sterling. Tho nsseti are £1014. The name of Mr J. Stevens, member for Rangitikei, appears upon the list of proposed members of the Native Affairs Committee in the House. The Chairman expressed himself decidedly in opposition to contributing anything towards the cost and Crs Williamson, Morton and Jacob thought they also should oppose the proposal. In discussing the Council's liability to a portion of the cost of repairs to Onepuhi bridge, the Chairman of the Kiwitea County Council, at Saturday's meet, ing, that they should have a commission to decide if the Manchester Road Board was liable to a portion of the cost of the Vinegar Hill bridge. Should this be decided in favor of the Council they might arrange with the Manchester Road Board to relieve the Council of its liability in the Onepuhi bridge, and the latter body would accept the responsibility of the former body's share of the Vinegar Hill bridge. Cr Williamson thought that when McCrae's road is completed the Halcombo Town Board would be quite as much interested in the Onepuhi bridge as the Kiwitoa County Council, and should bo asked to contribute.
