THE RECENT J.P. APPOINTMENTS.

Til TIIK KDITOR "F THE STAR Sin, — Several months ago two gentlemen were nominated for the position of Justices of the Peace for this district and now after all this delay no appointment has been made. Yet others have been made all over the country in districts, in some case?, where Justices of the Peace were already resident and were living within gunshot distances of each other. The people in and around Pemberton consider they have been grossly slighted in this matter. It is no uncommon thing tor settlers to go twenty miles and more to find a J P. to sign papers in his presence. I suppose it is because the men nominated are said uot to be " of the right color." If such be the case I consider it a great disgrace for any Minister of the Crown to be guilty of such cruel neglect. I am, etc., Settler. Rangiwahia, I lth June, 1894.
