The Awahuri Road.
♦ — DEPUTATION TO THE MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL. At yesterday's meeting of the Manawatu County Council, held at Sanson, Messrs C. Bull, B. Whisker, and E. Jennins interviewed the Council regarding the encroachment of the Oroua river on the Awahuri road, and it was finally resolved that if the settlers affected were prepared to raise a loan for protective works, the Council will assist by raising a loan under the Government Loans to Local Bodies Act if they can legally do so. The deputation urged the Council to grant a sum out of the rates for the purpose, and the settlers would subscribe a like amount ; but the Council thought they might 'be deluged with applications of a similar nature, and so declined to entertain the proposal, especially as there were likely to be many extraordinary calls on the funds during the coming months. Eventually the clerk was instructed to take steps to raise a loan of £250 to protect the bank of the Oroua river near the Feilding-Awahuri road.
