Tariff War Between Victoria and N.S.W.

Some excitement was caused here by the reported intention of the Government of New South Wales to levy a toll on wheat aud wool crossing the Murray river for carriage to a Victorian seaport, as a reprisal for Victorian stock tax. Returns show the aggregate imports from New South Wales annually aro .£3,071,000. The loss on railway freight alone would be £176,000, while tho whole stock tax levied last year waa 477,000.
