Feilding School Committee.
"• The usual monthly meeting of the Feilding State School Committee was held in the schoolbouse last evening. Present — Messrs Carthew (chairman), Haybittlo (secretiiry), H. Worsfold, Gould, R. J. Thompson, Taylor, Eade, Shearer, and Dr Sorley. The minutes of the last ordinary and special meetings were read and confirmed. Mr P. Knox waited on the committee, asking- if they would have a drain put through the back of the playground to allow the flood water to get away. — Referred to visiting committee to report upon. From F. Knox, account amounting to 27s 6d for shifting stab fence. — Passed for payment. Mr Cai'thew stated that he, with the secretary, had waited on the manager of the Bank of Australasia and had arranged for a school overdraft. Since then £1 14s had been received as capitation grant. Mr J. O. Hill, headmaster of the school, waited on the committee, and explained the per ccntages and other matters referred to in the Inspector's report. He also reported that after the examination, for six weeks there was a marked improvement in the attendance of children, there being 280 on aii average for that period. Last week it had fallen off through the bad weather. The total roll number at present was 340. The lobbies had to be used as class-rooms, and the ventilators required seeing to. The Head Teacher read the following averages of passes : — Percentage on number presented — 1889 : 68 6 ; 1890 : 86-6 ; 1891 : 863 ; 1892 : 84-6. Percentage on rcll number — 18S9 : 33-3 ; 1890 : 382 ; 1891 : 44-8 ; 1892 : 41-2. Resolved, That the committee were satisfied with the examination results as compared with previous reports. Resolved, That Dr Sorley and Mr Eade be the visiting committee for the ensuing month. Resolved, That Mr Hill be accorded a vote of thanks for his explanation of the examination papers. Proposed by J\J r Worsfold, seconded by Mr Could, That the matter re th« assistant-master be left tor the Education Board to deal with. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Haybittlc, seconded by Mr Taylor, That in the face of the Inspector's teport for 1893-94 on the Feilding State School, the Education Board be requested to supply the school with a first and second-class teacher in place of two third-class teachers. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Gould, seconded by Mr Worsfold, That the chairman and secretary be a deputation to wait on Mr Flavall to ascertain on what terms he would undertake to act as AssistantTruant Inspector. — Carried. The committee then adjourned.
