THE ACCOUNTANT SENT TO GAOL (PER PHKB9 ASSOCIATION.') CmiiSTCiiUßCii, June 3. The Supreme Court was occupiei till late on Saturday evening henriu: the charges of embezzlement agains Edward Parkerson, accountant of th late firm of Harper and Co. Tin defence was that Leonard Harper ha< authorised accused to take money fearing that if Parkerson filed tin collapse of the firm would be caused His Honor submitted the following questions to the jury : — (I) Did ac cused appropriate money for bis owr use; (2) Did Leonard Harper author ise him to do so 3 (3) Did accusec honestly believe that Leonard Harpei had authority from the iinr. to tel him to take moneys. The jury, aftei an hour's consideration, answered question 1 in the affirmative, and th< others in the negative. A verdict oi guilty was returned. The foreman said he was authorised to recommend prisoner to mercy. He was sentenced to two years' imprisonment with hard labour. No evidence was offered on the other charges and prisoner was formally acquitted of them.
