Mr Justin McCarthy has received the assurance from Government that the Evicted Tenants' Bill will be pressed on this session no matter what other measures are sacrificed. The Government by a majority of 17, carried the motion securing all time for the remainder of the session. There was a long debate on the Death Duties Bill. Sir 11. Webster, J. Goscheu, Sir J. Lubbock, and A. J. Balfour vainly opposed the co'onies being included in the provisions of the measure. The Chancellor insisted that it was j ust to apply duties to colonial property as colonists taxed British goods.
