(Pe:r Press Association.) Dcnkdin, May 28 Tho Premier was deputatdonised for four solid hours. Tbe Medical Congress asked assist* anco in entertaining distinguished visitors from Australia at the Medical Congress at Dnnedin. The Hon. Mr Seddon promised tbat the Government would not be behind hand, seeing what tbe Governments of other colonies had done. The Prohibition deputation, after dealing witb licensing matters, returned and protested against Sergeant Melville's removal from Dunedin to Napier.— The Premier said the fact of their advocating tbat an officer should not be removed supplied to him the very best reason why the removal should be given effect to. No police officer should ever be in the position of a shuttlecock, or partisan of any kind. The transference -actually meant promotion in this case. Whenever a police officer was nnder orders for removal, the Department was assured his family was in ill-health, or the removal meant a pecuniary loss. ■■■■■■■■M-i
