Stock Markets.
Messrs Lowes and lorns report that there was a large attendance at their Masterton sale yesterday, and a decided improvement in the tone of the sale throughout. The entries were much smaller than at late sales, but the bidding for all good lines of sheep was I spirited, old and inferior being as usual neglected. Entries of cattle were also ! small, but sold freely at late rates. Pigs were in demand at good prices. Quotations: — Fat ewes, 8s to 8s 6d; forward ewes, 7s 8d ; forward wethers, 8s 2a to 9s ; store 2-tooth wethers, 7s 6d to 8s ; light mutton, 9s 2d ; ewes, 4s to 5s 3d ; forward ewes, 7s 8d ; lambs, 3s 7d to 5s Id ; fat cows, £5 ss ; dairy cows and heifers, £5 to £6 ss; pigs, slips, 11s to 16s. Horses were dull of sale. Hacks, £4 to £o ss ; old crocks, 255. The old entire Trickster was thrown away at £20. Messrs Abraham & Williams report: — At Levin, on Wednesday, cattle came forward in full numbers. The bulk changed hands at the following rates :— 18 month heifers, £2 3s to £2 5s ; choice heifers, springing, £o ; milch cows, £4 2s 6d to £5 10s ; 3-year steers, £4 4s ; fat bullocks, £6 108 ; weanera, 20s to 245. Sheep were numerous, but little business done and confined to small lo.'s only* Aged ewes at 2s Gd ; 2, 4, and 6*tooth do.. 6s Yesterday a full entry of cattle and sheep came forward at Palmerston . Business improved as the sale progressed, resuiting in almost a total clearance ot bath cattle and sheep. Generally speaking there was more demand, but prices have not advanced, except for beeF, which teas firm at quotations: — Cattle— Fat bullocks, medium weights, £6 Ids; fat cows, £4 7s 6d, £4 12s 6d to £5 oa ; 3 yeai^old steers, £4, 7s 6d ; 2yw do., L 2 17s; well bred weaner heifers, L 2 10s ; mixed weaners, pood, 345; others, 20a; well bred breeding cows, L 4 2s ; milch cows, L6to L 7 108 ; Jersey bull L 5. SheepStore wetherp, 5s to 8s sd ; 6«tooth Romney ewes in rather low condition, 53 6d ; 4- tooth do.. 7s 6d ; f.m. do., 4s ; 2 tooth Lincoln ewes, small, 6s 6d ; ewes, mixed ages, os Id ; cull lambs, Is 3d ; woolly lamb.--, 33 6d
