The Unemployed.

(PEB PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Wellington, May 16 r The Wellington people have subscribed nearly £500 towards a fund to supply work fur the unemployed. The Typographical Society has written to the Benevolent Trustees stating that it will relieve any distress existing among members of the Society. The unemployed trouble in Adelaide has apparently dwindled away, and the majority of the men who used to cam- in the Botanic Park and the banks of the Torrens have drifted into the country districts. A good number are availing themselves of the offer of the Government to crack stones for " tucker," and this entitles those who have no homes to sleep in the old exhibition building. During the past nine months in Brisbane alone, £5522 worth of food has been distributed by the Govern » ment to the unemployed.
