AWAHURI LIBRARY.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAR. Sir, — In your issue of Saturday last, in giving an account of a social gathering at Awahuri in aid of the local library and reading room, the chairman is reported to have said that I had stated that the Goveminent might be expected to aid it by giving £ for £. I wish to say that I never said anything of the sort. I have only spoken to one person (not the chair man of the meeting) on the subject of starting this library, and he has apparently entirely misunderstood what I said to him, which was to tbe effect, that I hoped tbe nucleus would some day develop into a library within the meaning of tbe Public Libraries Act, when it might possibly participate in the yote for subsidies to public libraries. Apologising for troubling you. I am, etc., J. E. Campbell. Awahuri, May 14th, 1894.
