Drowning Case at Auckland.

-♦ (PKR PRESS ASSOCIATION. 1 Auckland, This Day. Late last night James Cross, Carpenter Yeoman of H.M.S. Orlando, was drowned at tho man-of-war steps of Queen Street wharf. Ho came down with the other liberty men to meet the boat, and tumbled iv between the steps and tho wharf. A marino jumped in iv the darkness aud states tho man caught hold of his leg, but suddenly released his hold and sank. He was unable to recover the body. It is believed Cross struck oue of the stringers of tho wharf in falling ami was stunned.
