Correspondence.

BE LIGHTING. TO THE. EDITOR. OF THE STAR. Sib, — In replying to the letter which appeared in your issue of the Ist inst., allow me to state that it would be better for all concerned if " Workman " would confine himself to the truth when commenting on, and attempting to condemn, the previous letter written by me. When he refers to " rambling imaginations " he must truly have been " rainbliDg/' as such an expression never appeared in my letter. Further, " Workman " should not be so blind as to commit himself so indiscriminately on the subject of suggestions ; Where are his ? As for an Engineer being the only person who can offer suggestions, the idea is beneath comment, but I suppose we must make some allowance for " Workman " as, perhaps, in his days of " folly and ignorance " education was limited. My reasons for refraining from offering suggestions were that (1) space prevented me from devoting the amount I required to give anything like an adequate idea of proposals, (2) time also was a consideration, (3) I was desirous of seeing others Bhow their interest in the matter by offering suggestions, and not, as has unfortunately been done by your correspondent, attempt to delay the matter, but rather to do something at once. The above reasons I maintain are quite sufficient to justify my actions. By the way, perhaps " Workman " is one of the unemployed and naturally is not in the best of spirits. Writing in that tone will not get him work. ]Nay rather hurry op the subject and work and wages will come my friend. Before concluding, if " Workman " is so very anxious to have proposals I am open to submit as many practical and reasonable suggestions as he will in one week from to-day. Apologising for trespassing on your space at such length, I am, etc., Practice. Feilding, Mny 2nd, 1894.
