LONDON WOOL MARKET
The Palmerston local branch of the Bank of New Zealand recently forwarded to their London office the following question on a subject of interest to woolgrowers : — " Whether heavily skir ed fleeces are likely to realise more per pound than when bellies are attached 1" The reply received was as follows : — " We have put your question on this subject to several of our leading wool brokers in London, and, speaking generally, they unhesitatingly disapprove of heavily skirted wools being sent Home to this market, as buyers here pay particular attention to any such defect in the bales. But, in regard to small clips where the shipper has not sufficient skirts to make up a bale of locks and pieces, or ha-; no convenient means of getting rid of them in the district in which the wool is shorn, we are not prepared to say that he ought to take off the skirts. On the other hand, if a consignor has a large shipment, of say over 30 bales, by all means he should skirt the fleeces very carefully."
