We would draw the attention of sheep owners to the following clauses of the "Stock Act" 1893 :— Clause 47 — " Every owner of sheep shall, between the first and fourteenth days of May in every year, deliver or cause to be delivered to the Chief Inspector of Stock or to the Inspector of the subdivision a written return, in the form provided in schedule B, of the total number of sheep of each sex owned by him on the thirtieth day of April preceding, specifying in such return the ear-mark and brand of ■uch owner ; and every former owner of sheep who, within the twelve months, has ceased to be such an owner shall nevertheless make a return to the effect that he no longer owns sheep, and shall give the names, occupation, and address of the purchaser or purchasers. Every person who refuses or neglects to deliver or cause to be delivered any such return as mentioned in. this section is liable for each offence to a penalty not exceeding twenty pounds and not less than one pound. Clause 48 — Every owner of sheep shall, on or before the first day of September in every year, pay to such person as may be authorised by the Governor to receive the same the sum of two shillings for every hundred or fractional part of a hundred sheep owned by him on the last clay of April preceding, and specified in the return furnished by him as provided in section forty-seven."
