The Premier and the Unemployed.

_» - (PK.R PRESS ASSOCIATION. • Ohristchtjech, April 30. The Secretary of the Canterbury Progressive Liberal Association has received the following reply from the Premier to his telegram regarding the unemployed: — "The Government are using the best endeavours to meet the unemployed difficulty consistent with the appropriations made for the construction of reproductive works. You have already been iniformed that the question of the permanent solution of the unemployed difficulty will be taken into consideration next session. You are further aware that placing the people upon the land goes in the direction indicated. I hope you do the Government justice for every effort that has been made, and that successfully, to increase thn number of our permanent settlers. I regret your Committee should have thought fit to protest against the tone of my remarks to the unemployed at Wellington, before having given me the opportunity of ascertaining from what source the Committee obtained its information. Had you sent the newspaper clipping, upon which I pre sume the decision of the Committee is based, and asked me for an expiation, you would have adopted the fair and proper cause."
